As a young guy in the early 60’s, fortunate enough to live the surf dream , Circle One owner Jeff Townsley travelled with friends through Southern France, Spain, Portugal, Canaries, Morocco and beyond in the essential beaten up VW campervan. Those journeys like nothing else fired his passion for riding waves and surfing to the max. He also aspired to find the gear that would take him to the next level...
So back in the UK and with feet on the ground, it is a classic story of humble corporate beginnings - making boards for himself and his friends copied from US Surf magazines. All the while Jeff was testing new designs, materials and production techniques. And so Circle One was founded in 1969 in Jeff’s home town of Exeter, Devon.
Nearly 40 years on and the Circle One evolution continues. Today the brand is synonymous with technological innovation and craftsmanship, the same starting points of Jeff’s first exploits. While embracing cutting edge production methods, you’ll find Circle One wetsuit patterns still being hand drawn by Jeff and every board being hand shaped and hand finished, some under his watchful eye.
